606 Grams

Today was the first day to take Gizmo outside for training. We went to the city park and found a quiet corner to work in. Getting him out of the truck was difficult as he wanted to bate like crazy. It did take a bit to get him to where he would come for food. I think he needed to soak in some of his surroundings before he got to work. Once we did get to work he did quite well going from 5 foot flights to 25 foot lights with in a matter of minutes. I think that he needs more weight dropped down and Ill do that while we do more training outside. All his training from this point will be outside. Our Lure session was slow It took him a minute to decide to come to it but I think that a few more of these sessions will produce a wed bird to the lure.

Today we flew to the fist and had food tossed out. I didnt get to use all the tidbits that I had as he stopped working. He did have a casting from yesterday, so I wont count that against him.

Today Gizmo seems to have turned a leaf. Im not sure if it is a weight issue but he has seemed to clicked and stopped being so fearful. He isnt spreading his tail and bating like crazy. He is looking at me intently as if to want to work with me. The session consisted of flying to the fist accross the room for food. After today Ill be working with him to come to the fist at which point ill toss food out for him to eat and to then return to the fist. The end of the session was a lure training with a Day old chick on the Lure. He went to it instantly which makes me happy.

I tried something new that I havent done before in my training. I couldnt get Giz to come to the fist but if I put my fist to the edge of the perch where he had to step to the glove he would do that and take the food. Im thinking I should get a hop to the fist very soon

I spent a couple hours with Giz on the fist today. He calmed down nicely after half an hour or so. He still wont take his eyes off me. Thats cool though. I did manage to get him to eat off the fist today while he was on the fist. He seems to respond to me whistling bigtime. While on the perch he will stretch for food but still wont make that jump. Maybe tomorrow.

643 Grams

Today Gizmo is calming down nicely. The bating has gone down quite a bit. He still wont jump to the perch on his own but when I put him there he sits for a good time before bating again. He has also started preening a little bit.
*
The feeding session today was pretty cool and I should have put it on video. He was real interested when I threw food to the ground and he went to get the first 2 pieces real quick. I had 30 grams cut up into a good 15 pieces. After the first two and he was standing on the ground I got onto my knees near him. I put food on the glove and he would walk to me for the food and take it from the glove followed by an instant bate away. He did eat it before taking off away but every time I put the food out and whistled he came and took it. Im thinking that he may jump to the fist earlier than thought. I spent a good hour with him on the fist and today he regained the fist on his own each time after a bate. So far I think this little guy is going to do pretty good.

Gizmo is doing much better today. He still wants to bate and not get on the perch himself but when I pick him up and put him on it he will stay there as long as I move slow. He even rouses and puts up a foot as long as there is not much going on. The big thing is that today he finally decided to eat. With Luscian I gave a DOC for the first few days just so that the stress could wear down and he could learn that I am giving food and that I am not going to get him. I have decided to do the same thing and not worry too much about pushing him to eat, just wait till he is ready. So today he got his DOC and his first meal since I have had him. I would like to say that after the meal he went to the perch but he required that I put him there. Now that he has eaten he is calmed down quite nicely. I also had a manning session with him for an hour on the fist with No bates. I think he will calm down and do quite nicely. Ill also work on getting photos up once he is eating and we can go outside.

Day two and Im working with Giz on the perch. He doesnt want to have anything to do with it and bates constantly. I put a DOC on the floor for him and its been 20 minutes and still not interested even if I leave the room. He will not go to the perch and I can hear him bate as the bells ching. He will have all day on the perch till 5 when I come home for lunch.

Day One 651 Grams

Today is Gizmo's first day in my care. He is the brother from the second clutch to Luscian. First weight is 651grams, only 5 grams less than Luscian after the flight to Colorado. I'm doing my normal training on the perch to start. He is much like Lusian as that he wont go to the perch and bates quite a bit. I Hood him regularly and have him sit on his perch listening to music and normal house hold activities. Ill feed tomorrow and see how it goes. I have also compared the two brothers side by side and cant find anything different with exception to that Luscian has more red and Gizmo's head is a little smaller. Other than that they are Identical.
